Chris J Handley (born February 2, 1983) is an American actor best known for his work in musical theater.

New York stage[edit]

Handley's career in New York City began shortly after performing Unholy Trinity (Yeshu) at Symphony Space in front of writer and famed critic Eric Bentley. He then started out quickly by booking his first two auditions. The first was a staged reading of Secret of our Souls: A Kaballistic Love Story by Ben Goldstein and Philip Namanworth. The second show was Now That You've Seen Me Naked a sketch comedy review. Handley has also been seen in Miss Nelson Has a Field Day (Lunch Lady), The Secret of Our Souls (Corporal) and Where There's Smoke (David).

Regional theater[edit]

Handley has been seen on numerous regional stages along the east coast, including stops in North Conway, New Hampshire, Coral Springs, Florida, Shawnee on Delaware, Pennsylvania, Naples, New York, and Buffalo, New York. While performing in his hometown of Buffalo, he was twice nominated by Artvoice magazine for an ARTIE as Outstanding Actor in a Musical. In 2005, Handley received the nomination for his performance as Booth in the Dramatis Personae's production of Assassins. In 2007, he was honored for his portrayal of Jimmy in Alleyway Theater's Reefer Madness.

Education and early career[edit]

Handley graduated from Canisius High School in Buffalo, New York in 2001. During the summer of 2000, Handley founded his own production company, Dramatis Personae. The group began with Shakespeare productions before taking on more challenging projects. Often multi-tasking as the DP producer and artistic director, Handley was seen as Charlie in You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown, the Baker in Into the Woods and as Booth in Assassins.

After spending a year at Mercyhurst College in Erie, Pennsylvania, Handley moved on to the State University of New York at Fredonia where he ultimately earned his BFA in 2005. He has an MFA from Indiana University.
