Emmanuel Chris Kaitson (born September 29, 1956) is a Greek-American attorney, energy industry executive, and fraternity leader. Since July 2025, he has served as the Supreme President of the American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association (AHEPA).
Early life and education
Kaitson was born in 1956 in Levidi, Arcadia, Greece, in the Peloponnese region. Shortly after his birth, his mother passed away, and he was adopted at age two by the Kaitson family in Indiana, United States. He reunited with his biological siblings through family visits.[1] He grew up in Crawfordsville, Indiana, and graduated from Crawfordsville High School. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Indiana University Bloomington (Wright Quad) in 1978 and a Juris Doctor (JD) degree from South Texas College of Law Houston in 1981, where he was named alumnus of the year.[2]
Career
Before pursuing law, Kaitson worked as a prison officer at the Indiana State Prison. Admitted to the Texas State Bar in 1982, he developed a distinguished legal career primarily in the energy sector.[3][4] Kaitson served as Senior Counsel at Enron from 1989 to 1995. He then held several senior legal positions at Enbridge Energy Partners and affiliated companies from 1997 to 2019, including Vice President–Law and Assistant Secretary roles responsible for U.S. securities and operational legal matters. Since 2017, he has been Vice President–Law and Assistant Secretary at Midcoast Energy Partners LP, and an Executive Officer at Midcoast Holdings LLC. He has also served as a Trustee of the Houston Ballet Foundation.
He has been recognized for his professional excellence by Martindale-Hubbell, a leading legal directory.[5]
AHEPA involvement
Kaitson has been a member of the American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association since September 1982. He has served at every organizational level, including most recently as Supreme Vice President under Savas Tsivicos, before his unanimous election as Supreme President at AHEPA's 103rd annual Supreme Convention in Lake Buena Vista, Florida, in 2025.[6][7]
Personal life
Kaitson is a devout Christian Orthodox and member of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America. He married Greek-American Angie Kanakis in 1981. They had three children. The family resides in Bellaire, Texas.[8]
