Christian J. (born Ricky Joe Phillips) is an American Christian hip hop artist, songwriter, and independent music executive from Detroit, Michigan. Known by the nickname “The Street’s Apostle,” he is recognized for blending Detroit street-style hip-hop with faith-based themes and autobiographical storytelling.[1]
Christian J. is the founder of the independent record label G-Soldierz Entertainment, established in 1998.[2]
Early life
Christian J. was born and raised in Southwest Detroit, Michigan. Growing up in Detroit’s urban environment, he was exposed to street culture and hardship at a young age. These experiences later became recurring themes in his music.[3]
Military service
Before pursuing music professionally, Phillips served in the United States Army from 2006 to 2010, reaching the rank of Sergeant First Class. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to Detroit and focused on music and community outreach.
