Christian Meunier (born November 5, 1967, Paris) is a French automotive businessman. He is currently serving as Jeep's chief executive officer (CEO),[1] and was also the former chairman and global president for Infiniti. Meunier has worked with several major automotive companies, including Ford, Mercedes-Benz, and Nissan.[2][3]
Early life and education[edit]
Meunier was born on November 5, 1967, in Paris, France. In 1990, he completed his master's degree in business from EDHEC Business School. Later in 2005, Meunier attended INSEAD, a sponsored program by Nissan for global executive training.
Career[edit]
Meunier started his automotive career in 1992 as a sales and commercial operator at Ford Motor Company. Then in 1996, he was appointed as a brand manager for Land Rover at BMW Group, where Meunier worked to create a brand image and set a premium positioning strategy. He later moved to the United States in 1999 and joined Mercedes-Benz as a product manager and director of SUVs and light trucks.[4][5][6]
In 2002, he returned to France and spent a long professional period at Nissan.[7] He started as general manager of commercial operations, and after two years, he became head of marketing for the 4x4, crossovers, and SUVs. Later in 2006, Meunier was promoted to vice president of sales, where he was responsible for sales operations, sales planning, reporting, distribution, and network strategy in the European region. In the following year, he became the vice president of marketing for Nissan Motor Corporation, USA.
In 2010, Meunier was acknowledged with the Global Nissan President Award from CEO Carlos Ghosn when NCI exceeded 100,000-unit sales in one year. He was honored and given a trophy in the executive category on July 23.
Later, Meunier was appointed as the president for Nissan in the Brazilian and Canadian regions. In 2016, he became the vice president of sales, marketing, and operations, for Nissan North America and a chairman for Nissan in Canada. In the following year, Meunier served at Nissan as a vice president of Infiniti in charge of sales, marketing, and operations.[8]
In May 2019, he joined FCA Fiat Chrysler Automobiles as a Global President of Jeep and became a member of the FCA Group Executive Council. Later, in 2021 Meunier was appointed as a chief executive officer for Jeep at Stellantis.[9] As of 2022, he has announced a plan for the first electric vehicle, the Avenger, which will be launched in Europe by 2023, and two electric cars, Jeep Recon and a vehicle from Wagoneer codenamed "S," for North America, which will be produced by 2024.[10][11]
