Christin Lutze
Christin Lutze (born 1975 in Berlin) is a German painter and graphic artist. She is known for paintings and works on paper that depict imaginative cityscapes, abstracted architectural forms, and invented landscapes.[1] Lutze lives and works in Berlin.[citation needed]
Biography
Lutze was born in Berlin and attended high school there, spending a year abroad in France.[citation needed] She studied fine arts at the Berlin University of the Arts under Marwan Kassab-Bachi, and was a master student (Meisterschülerin) in 2002.[1][better source needed] During her studies, she completed programs at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Venezia and the École Supérieure des Beaux-Arts, Genève.[citation needed] Since 2002, she has maintained a studio in Berlin funded by a long-term municipal grant.[2][better source needed]
Artistic work
Lutze’s work explores architectural and urban space through painting, drawing, and mixed media. She often focuses on imagined environments that contrast rational structure with dreamlike or impossible perspectives.[1] Her compositions emphasize color, surface, and light, and critics have noted the frequent absence of human figures, which lends an ambiguous or contemplative quality.[3] Lutze has stated: "The places I show do not exist that way. I am interested in perspective and surface – I like to shift everything against each other. The game with colours, perspective and light, that's my language."[1]
Exhibitions and collections
Her work is held in the Sammlung Holtmann (Holtmann Collection), a private collection.[4]
Awards and residencies
Lutze has received art grants and scholarships in Germany and abroad, such as the Neustart Kultur stipend (2021), a Villa Vigoni Fellowship (2004), and a NaFöG Berlin Scholarship (2002). She has held artist residencies in Iceland, Italy, India, and Switzerland. Additional recognitions include the Käthe-Dorsch Prize for Printmaking (2006) and foundation grants.
Professional activity and recognition
Lutze is a member of the German Artists’ Association.[5] Her profile is listed at Artspring Berlin and Sammlung Holtmann.[4][3]
