Mason was born to a German mother and American father, and spent parts of her childhood in the Chicago suburbs, on Washington Island in Lake Michigan, in Germany, and in Tehran. She left home at 15, began college at 16, and earned both a BA and MBA from Northwestern University. She is a PhD(c) candidate in Philosophy and Consciousness at the California Institute of Integral Studies. Technology and Entrepreneurship

In 2004, she became president of MSDSOnline, an online environmental health and safety compliance software company that was later sold to a private equity firm.

Also in 2004, Mason co-founded SpringCM (originally DocExchange, Inc.) as Chief Marketing Officer, a Chicago-based SaaS platform for enterprise content and contract lifecycle management. She later became president and CEO, leading the company through multiple funding rounds before its acquisition by DocuSign in September 2018 for $220 million.

In 2008, she co-founded Now Labs Inc., a futurism and innovation consultancy serving clients including Autodesk, Panasonic, Estée Lauder, and Genentech.
