Katy Cashen

Kathleen "Katy" Cashen is an American businesswoman and an elected member of the Town Board of Claverack, New York from the Democratic Party.

Cashen was first elected to the Claverack Town Board in 2011 and in 2015 was the top vote-getter, securing a second term.[1] Prior to her election on the town board, she was a member of the Claverack Agricultural Advisory Committee, Communications Committee, represented Claverack at the Columbia County Environmental Management Council and the Agriculture Farmland Protection Board.[2]

Her signature effort has been to expand broadband internet services to Claverack. Katy spearheaded negotiations with a broadbrand provider to bring its services to the town, and successfully negotiated discounted services and free basic cable TV services to municipal buildings, libraries, firehouses and public works buildings in Claverack, Philmont, Mellenville and Churchtown.[3]

She operates a small business in Hudson, New York providing consulting services to state government agencies in the area of workforce development and economic development, including to the National Governors Association.[4] Prior to her service in Claverack, Cashen was Executive Director of the National Association of State Workforce Agencies, representing state Departments of Labor in Washington, DC. She also worked at the New York Department of Labor and the New York State Legislature.[5]

Cahsen was born in Rockville Centre, New York, one of nine children. Cashen graduated with a degree in political science from LeMoyne College and a Master of Public Administration from the State University of New York at Albany.[5]
