Cihan University is the oldest established English-speaking private university and the first multi-campus University in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq.
Cihan currently has campuses in the major cities of Kurdistan namely: Cihan University – Erbil, Cihan University– Sulaymania and Cihan University- Duhok
Cihan University was established in accordance with the Council of Ministers of Kurdistan Region during February 2007, based on the National Kurdish Assembly enactment No. 33 of the year 2004, and was approved by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in Kurdistan Region No. 192N on the 30th of November 2006. The university became a member of the Association of the Arab Universities (AAU) in 2011.
Cihan University is governed by international standards and values with the innovation necessary for advancing the needs of Kurdistan region, Iraq and the wider region. Our programmes are accredited by the Commission for Academic Accreditation of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in the Kurdistan Region.
Cihan University Staff are nationally and internationally trained professionals with the desire and ability to promote and produce excellence. Our staff strives to educate students in critical, analytical thinking and provide them with practical skills that will be of benefit in their future professional careers. The University’s academic faculty is accomplished, and internationally recognized scholars in their fields are dedicated to providing students with the knowledge and skills needed in the Kurdistan Region, the Middle East and worldwide.
Cihan University’s Strategic Plan for 2015-2020 recognizes the major challenges of increased competition to attract the best students and staff; delivering the highest quality teaching and learning in an increasingly global and competitive employment market; offering facilities which are rewarding and enrich student experience; recruiting and retaining researchers who can deliver the knowledge and understanding needed to meet the challenges facing Kurdistan, the wider region and world-wide.
Cihan University through implementing this strategic plan will focus on Quality, Relevance, Internationalisation, Accreditation, and Graduate Profile/Employability preparing our graduates for the new realities of nation building, wealth creation, market demands and competition.Furthermore, Cihan University will work with government, business, industry, and the community to create lasting intellectual, cultural, social, health, environmental and economic benefits for Kurdistan and beyond. Additionally, we will embrace the communities we serve and engage with them at all levels, sharing a sense of pride in the University’s achievements
