Cihan University is located in Hawshike-Tanahi,[1] Duhok Governorate, Iraqi Kurdistan, northern Iraq. The University is the oldest established English-speaking private university and the first multi-campus University in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq.[2][3]

Cihan University was established in accordance with the Council of Ministers of Kurdistan Region during February 2007,[4] The university became a member of the Association of the Arab Universities (AAU) in 2011.[5][6]
