Cynthia Aurora Vortex is a fictional character in the American computer animated television series The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius. The character is played by female voice artist Carolyn Lawrence, who is known for portraying Sandy Cheeks in fellow Nickelodeon series SpongeBob SquarePants.[2]
Formerly one of Mrs. Fowl’s most intelligent students, Cindy is often considered Jimmy’s distaff counterpart, arch-nemesis, and eventual girlfriend. Since then, she tries to regain her old demeanor.
Character
Personality
Depicted as a tomboy, Cindy is very skilled at various Asian martial arts including tai-chi. A patronizing and smart person, she later displays a sensible demeanor in later episodes by warning Jimmy about his actions, though he rarely listens to her warnings. Having a cold-hearted personality, she also shares her infatuation with science with him and has a compassionate heart as well, as displayed in the pilot film and one season two episode.[3] A running gag throughout the show was constantly insulting Jimmy’s short stature and hairstyle, sometimes along with Libby.
Appearance
A 10 to 12-year-old girl, Cindy has long blonde hair tied in a ponytail, green eyes and a very slight tan. Although it is barely seen because of the art style, her lips are a medium purple-pink color. In her initial debut, her apparel consisted of a salmon pink button-on shirt, black slacks, and pink sneakers with her hair tied in handlebars. This was changed into a spaghetti-strap top in varying shades of green, khaki pants, and pale purple/pink converse sneakers at the request of series co-creator Keith Alcorn to give her a more mature look.
Portrayal
On the series and film, Cindy is played by female voice actor Carolyn Lawrence. Lawrence is known for voicing Sandy Cheeks in fellow Nickelodeon series SpongeBob SquarePants since its inception on May 1, 1999. As well, she lent her vocals to the titular character in the Adult Swim claymation series Moral Orel.
