Claudio Marcatoma Ccahuana (12 August 1953 – 26 February 2021) was a Peruvian politician.[1] He served as Mayor of the Punta Negra District from February 2020 until his death on 26 February 2021.
Biography[edit]
Ccahuana was born in the Pichirhua District in 1953. He failed to complete his secondary studies and did not hold a higher educational degree. He became a member of the Christian People's Party. He ran in the 2018 municipal elections in the Punta Negra District, winning the seat of Deputy Mayor, while José Delgado Heredia became Mayor.
On 5 February 2020, Mayor Heredia was arrested and imprisoned along with 10 other officials in Punta Negra for his involvement in the criminal organization "La Jauría del Sur". As a result, he was suspended from his position and Ccahuana became Mayor.[2][3]
Claudio Marcatoma Ccahuana died of COVID-19 during the COVID-19 pandemic in Peru in Lima on 26 February 2021 at the age of 67. On 23 February, his wife, Serafina Cuya also died of the disease.[4]
