History[edit]

New Campus in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, Malaysia

Originally founded in 2009 as Claz’room Production, a studio and training centre for professionals and SPM graduates (school leavers), Claz’room College was officially launched in January 2013 by digital creative experts Tung Yan Ning and Wong Jin Min. Their goal was to address the acute shortage of a quality creative workforce in Malaysia, by developing and nurturing creative talents, support transforming society by reorienting education.[3]

Managing director Tung Yan Ning, the honorary president of the international charity organisation the Innerwheel Club of Intan[4] received the SOBA Young Entrepreneur Award 2019, [5] The most Admirable Educational Leaders in Malaysia 2019 by Knowledge Review,[6] The 2014 Entrepreneur Award from the Asian Excellence Entrepreneur Federation (AEFF)[7] [8] and together with the principal Wong Jin Min, they received the award of The IPCC Grant Winner (MSC, Malaysia Super Corridor).[9] They have worked very closely with several international studios across the world such as Hasbro (in both the USA and Japan), Dota 2 Malaysia, and with Garena for popular online game League of Legends.

These international collaborations resulted from Tung and Wong meeting international studios and game production companies at San Diego Comic Con 2013, after being sent there to represent Malaysia by MDEC.

In 2014, several renowned creative multimedia personalities such as manga illustrator Kazeo Yuurin and line art and character design expert Kai-E joined the faculty. Both artists have had their work published by Malaysian publishing house Comic King, and Kazeo Yuurin was also appointed as official artist for Comic Fiesta 2018.

In 2016, a second campus was opened in Taman Pelangi, Johor Bahru, in partnership with textbook publisher Pelangi Publishing Group.[10]

In 2018, the main campus in Neo Damansara grew with the addition of a secondary building with more classrooms, student club, Auditorium and a new office for the faculty.

In 2019, the Johor Bahru campus relocated at Masai, Johor with more classrooms, student club, Auditorium and a new office for the faculty.

Mascot[edit]

Remi the Raccoon symbolises how Clazroom’s students will change into highly-sought after media specialists, who will transform the arts industry. Drawing from Japanese mythology, raccoons, or ‘tanuki’ are able to transform by putting a leaf on their head - in this case Claz’room hopes to be the ‘leaf’. The tanuki is named Remy after the ambitious and creative hero of Pixar’s Ratatouille; Pixar being an inspirational creative giant that Claz’room College hopes to emulate.
