Clemens Auer (born 1982 in Amstetten) is an Austrian product designer, furniture designer and graphic designer.
Early life and career[edit]
Clemens Auer grew up in Amstetten, Krems and Scheibbs, where he spent much of his childhood and youth. He attended the Bundesrealgymnasium Wieselburg, where he has won numerous drawing competitions, including the European Painting Competition. After graduation, he was admitted to the study program Industrial Design of the FH Joanneum Graz.
During his studies he did an internship in Düsseldorf. In the 7th semester, he won the endowed Magna Moving Emotion Award.
After graduation he went to Vienna, where he developed his first own projects, as for BP, and again won awards, as twice a nomination for the Danish Index:Award. In 2009 he made his debut at the Vienna Design Week.[1] and sold a design for an LED street light to XAL, which presented a prototype at the Light + Building Fair Frankfurt 2010.
From 2010 to 2012, Clemens Auer worked as an employed designer at GP designpartners in Vienna on various projects. After leaving, he prepared his professional self-employment, had publications on Dezeen[2], form, AD, H.O.M.E., Yankodesign[3], Azure and designboom[4]. This was followed by participation in fairs and exhibitions such as the Salone Satellite, Vienna Design Week, as well as in Madrid, Zagreb, Budapest and Linz. In 2015, he won the Wallpaper* Design Award[5] with the design of tweezers. In 2016 he won the German Design Award[6], 2017 a German Design Award nomination for a 3D printed coffee table, 2018 the American Good Design Award[7]
This was followed by publications in Forbes magazine[8], the FAZ[9], Die Presse, Der Standard, heute, Kurier[10] and Wallpaper* magazine. The design of a ladder landed in the auction house Dorotheum[11]. He also won a scholarship from Die Presse in 2015 for an MBA at MCI Innsbruck.
