During the Second World War Lacey served with the RAFVR. He was educated at King's College London  and ordained in 1950 and served curacies at Crofton Park and Kingston upon Thames. He held incumbencies in Merton, Eltham and was the Borough Dean  of Greenwich from 1979 to 1985.
