The name of the publisher is taken from from Cluny Abbey in France, which was known in the Middle Ages for establishing libraries and scriptoria. The logo of Cluny Media features "a monk transcribing a text (alongside a contemplative cat)."[1]

Publisher's Focus[edit]

Cluny Media's distinctive emphasis is variously described as "for the most part reprints of classics in apologetics, theology, and literature,"[3] "Catholic cultural revival,"[4] "traditional without being traditionalist,"[5] "keeping the culture alive, making sure the tradition is maintained—which means handing it on,"[5] and "to republish rare and hard-to-find classics of Catholic letters."[1] The publisher describes its mission as "Promote the tradition. Preserve the past."[6]

Matthew Franck, a Contributing Editor at Public Discourse, observes, "Some of the most interesting books available today, at least for Catholic readers, come from Cluny Media."[3] Catholic author Joseph Pearce recommends the books published by Cluny Media for "those interested in the Catholic cultural revival."[4]

Authors published by Cluny Media include Ida Friederike Coudenhove, Christopher Dawson, Rumer Godden, Romano Guardini, Caryll Houselander, Ronald Knox, François Mauriac, and Sigrid Undset.

Distinctive Book Covers[edit]

Peter Kwasniewski notes that "Cluny books are notable for their handsome typesetting and covers;"[7] another observes that their book covers are "beautifully designed."[3] The covers are designed by John Clarke and his mother Kathleen Clarke.[1]
