ClutchPoints (also known as CP) is a sports media company owned by ClutchPoints, Inc. It was founded by Nish Patel in 2015 and began as a part of the Startup UCLA program.[2] ClutchPoints covers the National Basketball Association, National Football League, and Major League Baseball.[3] Their headquarters is in West Los Angeles.[4]
Corporate affairs and business model[edit]
Nish Patel has been ClutchPoints’ chief executive officer since he founded the company. Willy He serves as Director of Growth and Dillon Reagan serves as Director of Operations.[5]
ClutchPoints has over 100 employees. The company generates revenue through advertising and sales.[6]
History[edit]
ClutchPoints was founded by Nish Patel in 2015. As a college sophomore in 2012, Patel built a Facebook page called ClutchPoints that focused on the NBA.[7] After building up an audience of close to 5 million, Patel began looking for help to grow the company. Patel eventually started Bruin Entrepreneurs, and through StartUp UCLA’s summer accelerator program, he was able to find investors interested in helping him start a company. Patel brought in Willy He as employee #1.[8]
ClutchPoints’ website and app were created in 2015, with primary coverage on the NBA, NFL, and MLB.[4] The app includes the same written content on the website as well as individual game streams with tweets, analysis, play-by-play, and highlights in one feed.[3]
In March 2017, ClutchPoints raised $500,000 in seed money with Eytan Elbaz, Gil Elbaz, ActOne Ventures, and TenOneTen Ventures contributing.[9][10]
In February 2020, ClutchPoints agreed to a podcasting content partnership with Blue Wire focused on two podcasts, Battle for LA and Establish the Pass.[11]
In April 2020, Shareablee’s PowerRankings rated ClutchPoints as the seventh-largest sports media publisher with 25.7 million social media actions and 27.3 million users within their audience, trailing organizations including WarnerMedia, ESPN (Disney), and Barstool Sports.[12]
In July 2020, ClutchPoints released a web series on Kobe Bryant's 2010 NBA championship, entitled, "The Final Ring", which featured interviews from Lakers players such as Derek Fisher, Pau Gasol, and Metta Sandiford-Artest, among others.[13][14]
