The Coastal Virginia Challenge Cup is an annual U.S. Amateur soccer cup competition between USL League Two (USL2) teams Lionsbridge FC and Virginia Beach United. Founded in 2019, the Coastal Virginia Challenge Cup is currently held by record 6 time winners Lionsbridge FC.[1]
History[edit]
The first Coastal Virginia Challenge Cup game was played on July 29th 2019 at the Virginia Beach Sportsplex. The game ended 0-2 to Lionsbridge with goals from Thibaut Jacquel and Ivan Militar.[2]
The 2nd annual Coastal Virginia Challenge Cup game was played on July 31, 2020 at Bailey Field in Yorktown, Virginia with a 6-0 win for Lionsbridge FC.[3]
The 2021 Challenge Cup was played on June 19, 2021 at TowneBank Stadium and ended with a 2-0 victory for Lionsbridge FC.[4]
The 2022 Challenge Cup was played on July 3, 2022 at TowneBank Stadium and ended with a 2-1 victory for Lionsbridge FC thanks to goals from Charlie Elliot and Maxi Hopfer.[5]
The 2023 Challenge Cup was played on June 3, 2023 at TowneBank Stadium and ended up 3-0 to Lionsbridge FC.[6]
The 2024 Challenge Cup was played July 6, 2024 at TowneBank Stadium and, for the first time in the competition's history, ended with a 2-2 draw. Because of the 1-0 win by Lionsbridge earlier in the year, they were awarded the Challenge Cup for a 6th consecutive year.[7]
