Colin Wayne Erwin is an American social media personality,[4] civil activist, philanthropist and entrepreneur.[5][6] He is known for his civil activism, charity endeavors,[7] and as the founder of Redline Steel, a decorative arts manufacturing company based in Tanner, Alabama.[3] Colin Wayne is a U.S. war veteran[8][9] and a former fitness model.[4][10]
Background[edit]
Wayne is a native of Huntsville, Alabama.[1] He comes from a family with a military background.[4][1] He attended Sparkman High School and Grissom High School, and received his General Educational Development (GED) at the age of 16.[4] While at school, Wayne enrolled in the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) and in September 2006, he enlisted in the U.S. Army.[4][2] Colin Wayne now lives in Huntsville, Alabama with his wife Breanna and three children Carsyn, Brelin and Brinley.[2]
Career[edit]
Military service in the U.S. Army[edit]
Wayne began his service as a Military Police Officer in the U.S. Army, where he served from September 2006 to March 2013.[4] He also worked as a Department of Defense contractor for Northrop Grumman.[8] Wayne was deployed during Operation Bright Star in 2008 and Operation Iraqi Freedom from June 2009 to June 2010. His military career came to an abrupt end in Afghanistan after he was hit by 107mm rocket explosion that landed a few feet from him on May 3, 2012.[11] As a result, Wayne sustained permanent nerve damage in his back L1-L3, requiring a lumbar block fusion surgery, treated for traumatic brain injury (TBI) and permanent tinnitus in his ear.[4] After the incident, he was honorably discharged from the military and awarded the Defense of Freedom Medal.[8]
In 2021, Wayne criticized U.S. President Joe Biden’s chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan noting that "the drawdown could have been handled in a much more orderly way – first by keeping Bagram open for the withdrawal so the American military still had a hub for command and control".[9]
Fitness modeling and social media[edit]
After his injury in Afghanistan, Wayne was featured in a photoshoot with a local fashion photographer Golden Czermak from Athens, Alabama.[4] The photoshoot attracted social media attention, in particular on Facebook.[1][12][2]
From 2013 to 2016, Wayne appeared on the front cover of over 50 magazines related to men's health and physique, including Men's Fitness, Muscle & Fitness and Ironman Magazine, among others.[13] By 2018, Wayne became an Internet personality with a significant social media fan base reaching more than 3 million followers on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.[11]
Wayne also took role of the main character, representing himself, in the Netflix's documentary The Perfect Physique, alongside American fitness model and actor Greg Plitt.[11]
Entrepreneurship[edit]
In 2016, Wayne founded Redline Steel LLC, a manufacturing company headquartered in Tanner, Ala. producing custom steel products for home decor.[14][11] The company is a veteran-owned and operated company[15] and was ranked 110 on the Inc 5,000 list in 2020.[3][16] In December 2018, the company's main equipment broke down and that caused temporary delays in products shipment on the eve of Christmas 2018.[2]
In 2019, Redline Steel represented the state of Alabama at the White House’s Annual Event Made in America Product Showcase.[17][18]
Charitable causes and activism[edit]
Colin Wayne has been noted for his charity endeavors and activism in multiple humanitarian projects.[2] Through his company Redline Steel, Wayne supported various non-profits such as Habitat for Humanity,[19] American Red Cross, Midnight Mission, Olivia Hope Foundation, USA Cares, and has collaborated with artists Criss Angel,[20] Shenae Grimes,[21] Lance Bass,[22] Tina Knowles, Daya,[23] Tori Spelling, Amber Heard,[24] John Otto, Leland Chapman and Charley Koontz.[19][25]
Wayne also collaborated with Megan Fox in 2020 and 2021 for Memorial Day charity gift item[5][6] and with actor Dolph Lundgren in 2022 in support of Redline Steel's 3rd Annual Memorial Day giveback.[26] In November 2021, Wayne partnered with Marisol Nichols and her non-profit "Slavery Free World" to create a charitable gift item to help bring awareness and help end human sex trafficking.[27][28]
Per Fox News, "Redline Steel has gifted more than $2 million worth of product to first responders and essential workers across the country. The company has 17 different giveaway products, including new additions designed specifically for each profession -- and it has shipped more than 300,000 products during the pandemic..."[29]
