It is a cross platform office suite that supports major hardware platforms IA-32, x86-64, ARM32 and ARM64, in combinations with software platforms: Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iOS, and Chrome OS.[10][11]

    Features[edit]

    Mobile[edit]

Mobile apps are available for Android, iOS and Chrome OS, these include a word processor, a spreadsheet and a presentation editor, with similar functionality to Microsoft Office mobile apps.[12][13][10] The Android and iOS apps have optimised touch interfaces for smartphone and tablet screens sizes, they work online or offline.[14][15] The Chrome OS mobile app is the Android app with the interface optimised for Chromebooks and it edits documents offline in the local Play files folders, it runs on several hardware platforms, Chromebooks (laptops), Chromeblets (tablets), Chromebits (these plug in to the HDMI port of a screen turning it into a computer), and Chromeboxes.[16]

    Desktop[edit]

Collabora Office Impress on the desktop

The Collabora Office suite of desktop applications run on Windows, macOS and Linux, they include word processor, spreadsheets, presentations, vector graphics editor, database and a mathematical and scientific formula editor.[17] The suite works with local storage, network servers, private cloud and public cloud Internet services, the supported cloud servers include Alfresco, FTP servers, Google Drive, Microsoft SharePoint, Microsoft OneDrive, and WebDAV, it works with services that support the open Content Management Interoperability Services (CMIS) protocol.[8]

The desktop applications have 3 toolbar options; A customizable tabbed toolbar similar to Microsoft's ribbon bar and the classic menu bar that is used in Google Docs.[18] All applications have a sidebar on the right side of the screen that this provides context relevant access to features.[19][20]

    Application details[edit]

The desktop applications include the following components, the mobile apps do not include Draw, Base or Math and have fewer options.

    • Collabora Office Writer - a word processor with similar functionality to Microsoft Word with extra functionality such as the ability to embed document files within PDF files so that they can be opened in full document integrity later on.[21]
    • Collabora Office Calc - a spreadsheet editor similar to Microsoft Excel with extra functionality, such as the ability to open almost any file format, compare documents side-by-side, view a clone of your spreadsheet in another window, spell check as you type, rotate charts, add a PDF as an image, etc.[22][23] The spreadsheet editor has support for a large portion of Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) Macros.[24]
    • Collabora Office Impress - a presentation editor similar to Microsoft Powerpoint. Presentations can be controlled from smartphones using the LibreOffice Impress Remote application.
    • Collabora Office Draw - a vector and rastor graphics editor is similar to Microsoft Visio, CorelDRAW, and Adobe Photoshop.[25] Connectors between shapes and lines allow building flowcharts, organisational charts, flyers, newsletters, brochures, diagramming and other works. It includes features similar to desktop publishing software such as Scribus and Microsoft Publisher.
    • Collabora Office Base - a database similar to Microsoft Access.
    • Collabora Office Math - mathematical and scientific formula editor, these formulas can be included in other documents in the suite.

    Web-based solution[edit]

There is a server based solution called Collabora Online which is accessible from modern web browsers and devices which allows real-time collaborative editing.

    File Formats[edit]

The Collabora Office desktop suite of applications can open over 100 file formats and save to several dozen, some of these are Open Document Format (odt, ods, odp, odg, odf), the Microsoft Office Open XML formats (docx, xlsx, pptx) and legacy Microsoft Office formats (doc, ppt, xls), pdf, csv, rtf. Other formats can be imported including, epub, Visio, Publisher, Keynote, Numbers, Quattro Pro, Pages.[9] Legacy formatted documents dating back to the first spreadsheet applications such as Lotus 1-2-3 can be imported.[26]

    Cross platform support[edit]

Collabora Office supports Windows on IA-32 and x86-64, macOS on Apple M1 and x86-64 and Linux on ARM and x86-64. On February 2020 Collabora launched Collabora Office for Android and iOS, followed in July 2020 by Collabora Office for Chromebooks. On 2 June 2016 Collabora Online launched with client support for any platform that runs a modern web browser, the server side runs on Debian, FreeBSD, Ubuntu CentOS, openSUSE, Univention Virtual Machines and Docker images, these will all run on x86-64 and ARM64.[27] Apple M1 support is via Apple's Rosetta emulation technology. In July 2020 Collabora commenced work on a pre-optimized native binary for the Apple M1 CPU with their work funded by sales of LibreOffice Vanilla in the Mac app store, in Feb 2011 they had a working binary in the Apple app-store with a few parts to be completed.[28]
