Toyota SUV used as an ambulance
An old example of an SUV (Chevrolet Suburban) being used as a van, in this case a panel truck

A Commerical SUV is an SUV or Crossover, that is used for commercial purposes. The category is very similar to panel trucks since the Chevrolet Suburban (An SUV) had panel truck versions, which were used for commercial purposes.

History[edit]

The first SUV-like vehicle that had commercial versions was the Chevrolet Suburban panel truck. Panel trucks by American manufacturers were built until the late 1970s.

While panel trucks manufactured by European manufacturers were rare, commercial versions of off-road vehicles were very common, Land Rover manufactured commercial versions of the Land Rover and the Defender. Commerical SUVs are factory-built and most of them are not independent conversions, which means they can be bought from dealerships and showrooms.[1]

European Commerical SUVs are the: Citroen C5 Aircross Commerical SUV[2], the Land Rover Discovery, the Dacia Duster Flika[3] and the Mitsubishi Pajero.

Usage[edit]

Commerical SUVs are used as they have better off-road capabilities than a van with 4x4 drive. Commerical SUVs also offer better interiors than a van would have, even when compared to modern pickup trucks, commercial SUVs are more luxurious and mostly more comfortable. Owners of commercial SUVs pay much lower taxes than the owners of a passenger SUV. No hybrid versions of vans exist that are globally available, however commercial SUVs have hybrid variants, as plug-in-hybrids are exempt from paying London's daily £12.50 Ultra Low Emissions Zone fee and £15, and makes small businesses save much more money.[4]
