The Commissioner Betti Trilogy, also known as the Inspector Betti Trilogy, is an Italian action-Poliziotteschi series of three popular mainline films and a spin-off. The series started in 1975 with Violent Rome and continued with two direct sequels before ending with the spin-off Weapons of Death in 1977. All three mainline films in the trilogy star Maurizio Merli as Commissioner Betti[1].Template:Time missing

Commissioner Betti was the breakout role for Italian actor Maurizio Merli.[1] Italian actor Franco Nero, star of popular Poliziotteschi films such as High Crime and Street Law, claims in the documentary Django: The One and Only that Maurizio Merli was only hired as he looked like him.[2] Template:Time missing . Merli would become typecast and spent most of his career playing the same type of character in other Poliziotteschi films, including entries into the Tanzi/Moretto/Monnezza shared universe.[citation needed]
