The Community of Physics (CP) is an educational organization that works to advance physics education and research. CP runs academic courses and research projects on physics. It also organizes outreach programs to promote physics among students.[1]

History[edit]

The Community of Physics had begun its journey on December 16, 2013[1] when a group of students from University of Dhaka gathered for the purpose. The announced mission of the organization was to popularize physics among the students by providing them a platform to discuss and share knowledge on the subject. On April 16, 2014, CP commenced their first course, focusing on classical electromagnetism. On July 15 of the same year, CP onset the operation of Clock Pulse, the mini-laboratory to facilitate research on physics.[2] To provide the members with necessary books and journal articles, the organization has started a circulating library, named Carved Papyrus on April 12, 2015.[3] CP had made their first outreach activity by organizing a workshop on June 12, 2015.[4] Besides its academic activities, it had volunteered to organize National Bangladesh Physics Olympiad in 2014 and 2015.[5]

Currently, the organization is running 5 academic courses on physics. CP has 4 divisions and 2 projects. Journal article access of Carved Papyrus is supported by Marie Curie Library of ICTP.[3] Activities of Clock Pulse is severely handicapped due to financial difficulties.

Divisions[edit]

The Community of Physics has four divisions in its administrative structure.[6]

Division of Administration[edit]

The Division of Administration was established on December 20, 2013. It governs and controls the affairs of CP. The division arranges meetings two times a year to monitor the activities and to set future goals.[7]

Division of Academics[edit]

The Division of Academics runs five academic courses in physics. Each of them runs for two years. It also conducts short courses occasionally. Carved Papyrus runs under the administration of the division.[3][8]

Courses[edit]

The Division of Academics offers the following academic courses:

  • Classical Mechanics[9]
  • Classical Electromagnetism[10]
  • Quantum Mechanics[11]
  • General Relativity[12]
  • Statistical Mechanics[13]

Division of Research[edit]

The Division of Research facilitates research in physics and physics education. The division also administrates the activities of Clock Pulse.[2][14]

Division of Outreach[edit]

The Division of Outreach arranges workshops and seminars to promote physics.[15] The division was established on June 19, 2015. It organized the first workshop on July 12, 2015. The division also produces video lectures and publishes on YouTube.[16]

Workshops[edit]

The Division of Outreach has organized the following workshops for the public audiences:

  • 1st Workshop on Differential Equations[4]
  • 1st Workshop on Vector Calculus[17]
  • 1st Workshop on Classical Mechanics: From Newton to Lagrange[18]
  • 1st Workshop on Classical Electromagnetism[19] [20] [21]
  • 2nd Workshop on Differential Equations[22] [23]

Projects[edit]

The Community of Physics runs two projects to support its students and researchers. The projects provide the research facility and necessary resources on physics.[24]

Clock Pulse[edit]

The Clock Pulse is the mini-laboratory of CP. It was established on July 15, 2015 to facilitate research in physics. But due to financial difficulties, its activity is limited to the theoretical researches only.[2]

Carved Papyrus[edit]

The Carved Papyrus is the circulating library of CP. It was established on April 12, 2015 to offer the students and the researchers necessary books, journal articles and papers. Currently it contains more than 100 books on physics and mathematics. On January 21, 2016, the Marie Curie Library of ICTP agreed to give journal access to the researchers of CP.[3]
