Films[edit]
I Wanna Dance with Somebody[edit]
In 2020 Compelling Pictures started their first production I Wanna Dance with Somebody, a Whitney Houston biopic written by Academy Awards nominee Anthony McCarten, who wrote the script for the 2018 Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody.[1]
In August 2020, Sony Pictures and TriStar acquired the worldwide distribution rights to I Wanna Dance with Somebody after a reported bidding war.[2][3] In September 2021, Kasi Lemmons was brought on to direct the film with Naomi Ackie playing Whitney Houston,[4] and with Stanley Tucci as Clive Davis.[5] Nafessa Williams, Ashton Sanders, Tamara Tunie, and Clarke Peters joined the cast in supporting roles. Production for the film took place at Marina Studios in Boston, Massachusetts for a reported four picture deal with the newly constructed sound stages.[6] I Wanna Dance with Somebody is set to release on December 21, 2022.[7]
The Collaboration[edit]
Screenwriter Anthony McCarten wrote a live-action adaptation of his play, The Collaboration, for Compelling Pictures and McCarten's production company Muse of Fire. The reported film is based on the creative relationship between Andy Warhol and Jean-Michel Basquiat.[8] Paul Bettany has been cast as Andy Warhol and Jeremy Pope as Jean-Michel Basquiat, with Daniel Brühl and Melissa Barrera in supporting roles.[9][10]
Production on The Collaboration began on September 14, 2022, at Marina Studios in Boston,[11] with Breaking writer Kwame Kwei-Armah as director.[12]
