On April 22, 2020, Stella Meghie was set to direct the Whitney Houston biopic “I Wanna Dance with Somebody,” with Anthony McCarten attached to write and produce the film with Clive Davis, Pat Houston, Larry Mestel, and Denis O’Sullivan.[1] On August 4, 2020, TriStar Pictures acquired the movie.[2]
Casting[edit]
On December 15, 2020, Naomi Ackie was set to portray Houston.[3]
Filming[edit]
The film is expected to begin principal photography on May 3, 2021 in Newark, New Jersey.[4] On August 20, 2021, pre-production on the film started to begin principal photography in Marina Studios at Boston, Massachusetts.[5]
Release[edit]
The film is set to be released for the Thanksgiving holiday in 2022.[2]
