Computer Engineering Department, Faculty of Engineering, King Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi (CPE) is the faculty level of the department of engineering. Department of Computer Engineering KMUTT was established in 1986, which is based on the Department of Electrical Engineering that requires basic knowledge of electrical engineering which is electronics, then developed into a device called a computer today.[1]
The available curriculums in the Computer Engineering Department are Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering program, both regular, and international program, Master's degree, Master of Engineering program, and Master of Science Computer Engineering, and Doctorate of Philosophy Program Electrical and Computer Engineering.[2]
The visions of the department aim to be the best computer engineering department in Thailand, have international teaching, and learning standards, and produce quality students that are in demand in the market.[2] The Faculty of Engineering has been ranked in the field of Engineering, and Technology for the year 2021 in No. 1 in Thailand for five consecutive years, since 2018, and rank first place in Thailand in the computer science subject branch in 2021. [3]
History[edit]
Department of Computer Engineering KMUTT was established in 1986, which is based from the Department of Electrical Engineering that requires basic knowledge of electrical engineering which is electronics, and then developed into a device called a computer today.[1]
In 1987, King Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi has proposed to the ministry for official approval for computer engineering to be a university department on 23 February 1987, and on 2 June 1988 computer engineering was officially approved as a university department.[1]
In the year 1987, the department of computers has accepted 29 first-year students and started the semester in 1988. Then, the computer engineering department has changed the method of student admission to direct admission. The first batch of computer engineering program of the institute was graduated in 1990 and created more than 100 graduate computer engineers a year.[1]

Program[edit]
Department of Computer Engineering offers bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees. The available curriculums in the Computer Engineering Department are Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering program, both regular and international program, Master's degree, Master of Engineering program and Master of Science Computer Engineering, and Doctorate of Philosophy Program Electrical and Computer Engineering. [2]
Department of Computer Engineering aims to produce graduates who can use their knowledge, and skills to think, analyze, design, plan, and execute to be successful in the context of various aspects of the job fields, and have the potential to adapt and learn to develop oneself to build on their knowledge using different types of active learning and outcome-based teaching methods.[5]
International Program[edit]
The international program is an MOU program that collaborates with the University of Missouri Colombia where the program is similar to the regular program. But from the third year on, the international program has more business-computer focus subjects such as UX&UI.[6] In the part of department basic subjects such as electric circuit and digital circuit course, the international program will not go deep in detail as much as the regular program does, but the detail in the exam will be in similar level of knowledge. Furthermore, international programs have a corporate internship at the international center for engineering (ICE) and can go study abroad in the third year and fourth year, which the regular program does not have. [7]
Regular Program[edit]
The regular program will be more focused on analyzing and designing different systems such as hardware systems, software systems, network systems, etc. In which the regular program student will begin to study with the C language and basic computer subjects like International program, and in the following years will be able to study more computer languages and hardware knowledge.[7]
Health Data Science Program[edit]
This course is not the same as the Regular and International programs. Health Data Science Program study at two areas at the same time: Computer and Health Sciences. This is a joint program between Chulabhorn Royal College and KMUTT. Health Data Science students will use the application of computer knowledge to apply to the health science knowledge to make the application meet to the medical field, health, and public health services[6]. Students in this program will start by studying python language and medicine, where they will study similar to the medical students of the Royal College of Chulabhorn but the content will not go as deep as medical students have to study.[8]
Honor Achievement[edit]
- The Loanvisor team from Computer Engineering KMUTT won the 2nd winner prize in the IBM Watson Business Case Competition 2016[9]
- CPE students won the first prize of IT Princess Awards Competition 9th, 2016 hosted by the Foundation for Research in Information Technology (FRIT).[10]
- The BeeConnex team from King Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi won the Imagine cup Thailand 2018 competition.[11]
- The !cleartext team from King Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi won the first prize in TOT Hackathon 2019 competition.[12]
- The Red Sheep team from King Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi first year computer engineering won the first prize in STDiO CTF COMPETITION 2020 (STUDENT IN OFFENSIVE SECURITY)[13]
Space & Service[edit]
The computer department has many specialized research laboratories and educational spaces for students to learn and practice according to their interests. Firstly at the 10th floor of the engineering building, when entering the department there is a Co-Working Space, known as ห้องภาค, which is available for computer students to hang out and use as a place for various activities within the department. Next to the Co-Working Space will be a section of the Senior Project room for 4th-year computer students to do their thesis projects. Along with that, there are also laboratories for electronic hardware, computer networking, and specialized research laboratories.[14]
The 11th floor of the Engineering Building there will be lecture rooms, computer rooms, and other laboratories for computer engineering students, such as[15]
- Geoinformatics Laboratory at KMUTT: GLaK
- Concurrent Algorithms and Scalable Technology: CAST
- Multimedia Communications Laboratory: MCL
- Computational Intelligence and Optimization: CIO
- Edutainment & Socio-Interaction Computing: ESIC
- Intelligent and Entertainment Technology Laboratory: INENG
- Speech and Language Technology Laboratory: SALT
- Computer-Aided Design Laboratory: CAD
Student Activity[edit]
ComCamp[edit]
ComCamp is a camp that aims to introduce the Department of Computer Engineering, KMUTT to all high school students or equivalent grades, provide experience in learning basic content knowledge of various fields of computer engineering such as c language programming, IoT, and others. There are also various recreational activities to build relationships between the participants as well.[16]
ComCamp is a camp created, planned, and organized by the freshmen of computer engineering students and first organized in 1989. The camp lasts about 5-7 days depending on the detail of each year.
CPE Game[edit]
CPE Games are held during the new year period every year, there will be various sports games for teachers and students to join and compete in. The team will be divided into 2 teams by the number of student id: the even number will be in the pink team, and the odd number will be in the blue team. And in the evening will be a new year party including dinner party, music performance, and prize giving.[17]
