Conan: The Hyborian Age is the most recent pen-and-paper role-playing game of sword and sorcery set against a backdrop of Conan stories in the fictional Hyborian Age from literature by Robert E. Howard. "With King Conan perched upon the throne of Aquilonia, it is time for other brave warriors to take up the mantle of adventurer, to craft their own stories, and to face unknown horrors in the darkest corners of the world".[1].
History
There have been several earlier iterations of Conan role-playing games before this, the last licensed one was from Modiphius and titled Conan: Adventures in an Age Undreamed Of (2016-2023). Other Conan role-playing games include Conan Role-Playing Game (1985–1988) and Conan: The Roleplaying Game (2004–2010) from Mongoose Publishing.
Development
Monolith Productions acquired the Conan role-playing game licenses when the one for Modiphius elapsed in December of 2022, with all that older stock sold off by Modiphius in June 2023[2]. Utilizing the successful funding model of Kickstarter, Monolith Productions has previously developed and published several successful skirmish boardgames in the Hyborian Age of (a) Conan[3] , (b) The Book of Set[4] and also (c) Red Nails[5]
Publication
In June of 2024, Monolith Productions released Conan: The Hyborian Age Quickstart Rules[6] in PDF form through the publisher's own website.
