Conflict Gold

Conflict Gold refers to the extraction and procurement of gold metal through unlawful means, often by using child labour, human trafficking, forced labour, terrorism, etc. These are usually natural resources that can be mined or extracted in conflict zone areas and sold to perpetuate wars, fighting, or military conflicts.[1] Minerals sourced from these illegal and inhuman mining are often smuggled out of the parent country at cheaper rates than the global value, leading to gross economic deprivation, human rights violations and unaccounted wealth accumulation in some quarters. Once these minerals undergo refinement and processing, they become extremely difficult to trace or identify.[2]
