Connie Williams (author)
Connie 'Mae' Williams is an African American author born in Union County, North Carolina.[1] Her first novel, Emily's Blues (1989), won her the Arts and Science Emerging Artist Award in 1990. From 1990–1996, she received the Union County Community Arts Council Award-Biennial Report: North Carolina Arts Council (1993–1995); and in 1996, the North Carolina Arts Council Award and the National Endowment for the Arts Award.
The second of twelve children, Williams is a graduate of California State University, Northridge (English degree) and the University of North Carolina at Charlotte (Education Sp. Ed degree).
