Constituyentes Atomic Centre (CAC) is an Argentine research and development facility that covers a broad spectrum of activities focused on basic sciences and nuclear technology. [1]
It is one of the three research facilities operated by the National Atomic Energy Commission (CNEA), the other two being Bariloche Atomic Centre and Ezeiza Atomic Centre.
It was created in 1957 to house Argentina's first nuclear reactor: the RA-1, which started operating in January 1958. The RA-1 is still under operation, being used for research and education.
The other big facility operating inside the CAC is the Tándar linear accelerator.
The Centro de Información Eduardo Savino is its main library, being also part of the CNEA libraries network.
Since 1993, as a result of an agreement with the San Martín National University, the Sabato Institute was created with the CAC as its campus. The institute offers several careers: a grade degree in Materials Engineering, a Master's degree in Materials Science and Engineering, a PhD program in Physical Sciences and Materials Sciences, and a specialization in Non-destructive Essays.
