Consulate General of Germany, İzmir

The German Consulate General in Izmir (German: Deutsches Generalkonsulat Izmir) is a diplomatic mission representing German interests in Izmir. Since 2007, the consulate has been located in the elite district of the city - Balchov, which is known for its thermal springs and forests.[1]

The consular district of the consulate includes the Aegean region and three provinces of the Mediterranean region: Burdur, Isparta and Antalya.[2] After opening in 2010s. separate German Consulate in Antalya residents of the three Mediterranean provinces can also apply for visa issues to the German Consulate General in Izmir and the Consulate in Antalya.

From 1925 to May 2007, the Consulate General was located in the coastal region of Izmir, Alsancak, Kordon, in the former residence of the Ghiffre family, an architectural example of Izmir's Levantine past.[3]

The first officer of the new Consulate General was Consul General Wilhelm Padel in 1924. Luckily, he managed to find a rented house that the Consulate General could use as temporary accommodation. In subsequent years, the state bought the entire building, which is still in use today and is known as the most beautiful residence on the coast. The building in question was in close proximity to the embassies of the Netherlands and Italy.

On May 21, 2007, the Consulate General moved to a modern residence in the Balçova.
