Cooch Behar Archive is a non-profit organization dedicated towards the preservation of Heritage of Northeast India.

Objective[edit]

The objective of Cooch Behar Archive is to collect Archival material related to the Northeast India, especially Cooch Behar and spread awareness about Heritage and Culture among the general people.

History[edit]

Cooch Behar Archive was established in 2013. The Archive received its Government Registration ( Regn. No.: S/2L/35278) under the West Bengal Societies Registration Act XXVI of 1961 in the year 2015.

Since its advent, it has worked on heritage in the North-eastern realm. It has arranged Exhibitions, Heritage Tours, Cultural Functions, Quiz and other Competitions almost on a regular basis. The Archive is presenting 'Vintage Trophies (Running)' to develop a taste for preserving heritage along with other prizes in a Quiz Competition from its very beginning. It has also arranged an International Seminar lately, entitled the 'Global Heritage and Cooch Behar'.

The Archive also has a State Level Representation at the Heritage Committee, Cooch Behar, Government West Bengal which played a vital role in declaring Cooch Behar as a 'Heritage City'. The Archive has played a notable role through membership and contribution of information and resources to the Heritage Committee formed by the State Government during the declaration process.

Activities[edit]

  • Exhibition

The Archive has arranged for Exhibitions on Numismatics — featuring coins from the Mughal, British India, Cooch Behar State, Republic India and others; Philately — featuring Postage and Fiscal Stamps from British India, Republic India, Princely States etc. and postal documents; exhibition of rare documents, manuscripts, vintage textiles and utensils, arts and crafts etc., exhibition on Phillumeny and many more. Renowned collectors from India has exhibited their invaluable collections in the Exhibitions.

  • Educational Tour

The Archive has organised Educational as well as Heritage Tours at Cooch Behar Palace, Cooch Behar Tea Estates, Cooch Behar City, Gosanimari (the old capital of Khen Kings), Dhaliyabari (old capital of Cooch Behar dynasty), Gobrachhara, Shivaprasad Mustofi, Baramaricha and other historical places. 

  • Quiz Competition

Since the inception of the Organization it is organizing Quiz Competitions on a regular basis.

  • Publications

The Archive has published a Souvenir.

  • Digital Archive

It has developed a digital collection of archival materials including a collection of more than 7,000 rare books, documents, photographs etc.
