Early Life[edit]
Cory James Grinder was born in Akron, OH where he lived until he spent a brief period in Tennessee during his late teens. At a young age Grinder found himself wanting to imitate his sister, Ally Grinder's ability to play violin, piano, and sing. He also found interest in theater from a young age which lead him to pursue acting in plays and composing original music for productions. The first purchase of a small audio mixer plugged into his father's work computer, gave Cory his first taste of being able to record music and write with this digital aid.
Career[edit]
2010-2016 - Johnny and the Apple Stompers - Rodney and the Regulars Cory Grinder's joy of playing violin would be realized during high school when he joined a group of skiffle-playing street musicians who called themselves, Johnny and the Apple Stompers. He quickly became an absolutely integral part of this group, not only contributing on fiddle, but also harmony vocals with the band's lead singer and songwriter, Johnny Miller. It wasn't long before Cory's interest in recording would lead him to produce demo tapes for the band who were taking a guerilla style approach to playing gigs. The band was well known for busking on street corners and at flea markets, but also sharing the stage with anyone. The band was often paired with hardcore and metal bands in the country music sparse area of greater Cleveland, OH. At their heights, the band released two full studio LPs and an EP all produced by Grinder in his home studio. Their debut album Down The Line was released December 2012 and was followed by Prison Bound August 2013. Their latest and possibly final release Far From the Tree came out November 2015. Grinder worked to get the band to release another record, but failed to be able to get the band to continue working on new material. A surprise appearance on a nationally syndicated NPR program led to a very breif resurgence in the band, but a falling out between Grinder and Miller led to Cory setting out on his own.
2016-2018 - The Cory Grinder Band - First Album Wanting to be able to take more control of his music career, Grinder decided to split ways with Johnny and the Apple Stompers in favor of creating his own band. He brought in musicians from his days with The Regulars and The Apple Stompers to create what would end up being called The Cory Grinder Band.
