Cory Lingner (born December 12, 1990) is a current broadway professional.[1][2][3] He has appeared in two Broadway productions, the 2014 revival of On the Town (musical) and An American in Paris (musical) and his third coming in Spring 2017 with Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (musical). He also played the role of the Jester in the 2015 off broadway revival of Once Upon a Mattress, which landed him an Astaire Award nomination.

Early life and education[edit]

Lingner was born in Indianapolis, Indiana. He's the younger son of Louise and Terry Lingner, an Emmy award-winning television producer.[4] Older brother Chris is a dancer with the Cincinnati Ballet and performed lead roles in the '08/'09 national tour of Movin' Out.[5] Cory began dancing at the age of 4 at a local dance studio. He attended University High School (Carmel, Indiana)[6] and performed in multiple local productions in ballet and musical theatre. He then attended the University of Oklahoma and graduated in 2013 having received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in musical theatre performance from Weitzenhoffer Family College of Fine Arts.[7]

Career[edit]

Lingner began working professionally performing regional theatre. During his years in college, he performed multiple shows at several regional theaters like The Muny,[8] Sacramento Music Circus,[9] Music Theatre Wichita,[10] and Lyric Theatre (Oklahoma City, Oklahoma).[11] After moving to New York City, New York in September 2013, he auditioned and landed a developmental reading and dance lab of a possible Broadway revival of On the Town (musical).[12] The following Spring he was offered and made his Broadway debut as ensemble and understudied the roles of Chip and Ozzie in the 2014 revival of On the Town (musical).[13] After On The Town closed on September 6, 2015, Lingner was offered the role of the Jester in the 2015 off broadway of Once Upon a Mattress produced by Transport Group.[14] It landed him an Astaire Award nomination for Best Male Dancer in an off broadway show.[15] Lingner was involved in developmental workshops for stage adaptations of King Kong (2013 musical)[16] and The Honeymooners.[17]

On television, Lingner could be seen singing and dancing on the 88th annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, the TODAY show, and the 69th annual Tony Awards with his On The Town cast mates. He also appeared on Saturday Night Live with host Jim Parsons in the Dance Floor Killer sketch[18] as well as a dancing sailor on Hulu in The Battery's Down.[19]

In July 2016, Lingner joined the Broadway company of An American in Paris (musical) as ensemble and understudy the role of Adam Hochberg.[20] He stayed with the production until it closed on October 9, 2016.

Lingner performed as a featured soloist in the 2016 Oklahoma City Philharmonic Christmas Show with guest star Kelli O'Hara.[21] Lingner is cast in the new Broadway production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (musical).[22] Previewing March 28, 2017 and opening April 23rd, 2017.
