Count Wladmir Shchwekochov

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Count Wladmir Shchwekochov was a Russian nobleman, and last owner of the ancient Shchwekochov estate, near Kazan.[1] The estate had over 300 acres of forest, 5 lakes, a waterfall, 2 farms, a mine, and a 40 bedroom palace with a malachite and gold-plated ballroom. He met his wife, a Baroness from Kazakhstan, while reading Anatomy at Saint Petersburg State University. He died in 1866 from pneumonia- a painting from 1865 shows Wladmir's gaunt, jaundiced face. The painting was sold to a private buyer from Sotheby's in 1975. He left the entire estate to his wife, to much angst of the Shchwekochov family. The main palace was destroyed in a fire, in 1868. The estate was abandoned shortly after. The exact identity of Shchwekochov's family are unknown due to migration and name changes during the war.[2]
