Cow Evolution, also known as Cow Evolution: Animal Clicker or Cow Evolution - Mootant Apocowlypse[1] is a mobile game developed by Brazilian company Tapps Games.

Background[edit]

The game was teased in mid 2014 with a poster of a screenshot of the game with the words "...mootations started!" It was released on August 26, 2014.

Gameplay[edit]

The game starts off at a farm, wherein the player must drag a cow across the screen and match it with an identical cow, causing them to mutate. Cows can also be purchased at a shop for either coins or diamonds. The cows will frequently poop, giving the player coins, while diamonds are earned by unlocking achievements. A crate containing a cow will appear every couple of seconds, and these can be upgraded to arrive faster or contain a more powerful cow. The types of cows can be viewed in the Moopedia. You can also dress up your cows in different outfits that can be purchased with diamonds. You can also use the "tractor" option to collect coins while you are not playing. The more the player progresses, the bigger and more powerful the mutants become, and will eventually conquer the world. Later in the game you are given the option to trade your cows to aliens, and can go to Mars to mutate them. In a later update, you could go to Pluto. The same rules for alien mutant cows apply as on Earth, except that you have to purchase a cow in order to evolve it, which will hatch from an egg. When you mutate enough cows you can create a supreme being, but this cannot be done on Mars or Pluto. Once you create a supreme being with enough power, you can reset the game.

Reception[edit]

Cow Evolution received positive reviews. One source stated that "Manitoids sometimes find this game to be a bad distraction from their studies. But others use it to bribe themselves to get the work done."[2] Another source described it as "an absurd but an idle way to kill your time."[3] The game also received between 5-10 million downloads on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store where it was ranked in the top 500 games, and in the Amazon App Store where it was also in the top 500 best free apps.[4] Softonic listed it as #1 on the best incremental games for Android in 2021.[5]

Sequels[edit]

Aside from "Do Not Disturb!" or "My Boo," the Evolution series has become one of Tapps Games' most popular games, and spawned several sequels. The Evolution series so far is, as follows:
