Breakout: The Dark Prison is an action role-playing video game (ARPG) developed by Latersoft and published by Latersoft. [1] The game is planned to be released worldwide for iOS and Android platforms in Summer 2019. The game involves the main player attempting to save his daughter and take revenge on a group of bandits and mercenaries who attacked him and kidnapped his daughter.
Gameplay
Breakout: The Dark Prison is an Action-adventure game played from a third-person view. The game features cutscenes, controls and fighting elements. The game also features intensive boss fights which need players to react in order to survive. [2] Players are encouraged by the game design to proceed with caution instead of attacking only. The game has a core function of Dodge System that players need to escape from attacks from monsters and attack when there is a right timing.
Four types of enemies will appear in the game: Bandits, Zombies, Robotics and Monsters. Players will need different weapons or strategies when fighting against different types of enemies. The game has three main regions: Dark Prison, Detroit's Lab and Exploring Outside World. By progressing the story, players are able to explore more areas and stories in the game. In addition, the game supports single player story, PVP, MOBA (Multiplayer online battle arena) and Co-op missions.
Synopsis
Setting
The game takes place in a late 21st century post-apocalyptic world due to a fatal virus which can turn humans into zombies. Monsters and bandits are everywhere while the population dropped over 90% with only a few portions of humans surviving.[3] In this apocalyptic world, the player takes control of a main character who can be customized as Male or Female. Since the player's daughter has a special DNA that can heal the fatal disease, a group of mercenaries attacked the player and kidnapped his daughter to the Dark Prison for making the vaccine. To save his daughter, the player goes to the Dark Prison and starts the journey.
Plot
When players arrive at the Dark Prison, a group of bandits come and ambush them. Players are running into the Dark Prison and come across the Prison's Guardian. After a series of combat, players are smashed into the sea. For survival, players swim to a safety house - The Hunter's Shelter. Inside the shelter, players are able to proceed with the NPC's help.
In the later stage, players are able to find his daughter but she is caught by a group of bandits and taken on a ship to another island - Detroit's Lab. Players then seek help from Red Queen in order to reach the Detroit's Lab. After arriving at the Detroit's Lab, players are able to get more clues to find out who is the mastermind behind the scene.
Development
Development of Breakout: The Dark Prison began in October 2016 [4] and announced the game in G2E Asia - one of the largest entertainment game shows in Asia. [5] In 2019, Latersoft plans to self-publish the game worldwide and plans to release the game in Summer 2019. The game draws inspiration from the Post-Apocalyptic World while involving a big prison tower which has a lot of monsters and bandits inside. The game design is inspired by the actual prisons Devil's Island and Alcatraz Island. They are isolated islands without any bridge connected. In contrast, the Dark Prison in the game has a long bridge connecting it.[6]
