Creatures of Leisure is a privately owned company based in Dunsborough, WA, Australia. The company is a manufacturer of surfboard leashes, surfboard tail pads (deck grips) and surfboard covers. The company also produces a wide range of surf hardware including tie down roof racks, fins, bags and surf hats. Over the years Creatures of Leisure have sponsored some of the top surfers in the world including seven times women's surfing world champion Stephanie Gilmore.[1] and three times men's surfing world champion Mick Fanning[2]

History[edit]

Creatures of Leisure was founded by John Malloy in 1987[3] when he began making a range of basic surf accessories to suit the needs of the surfers who were surfing the powerful waves of Yallingup and Margaret River. There were several different surfboard leash materials at the time but John was one of the first people to use a urethane cord that attached to the deck of the surfboard, this provided the most reliable connection from the board to surfer yet and is still industry standard to this day. Creatures of Leisure began producing other types of surfing accessories as the sport of surfing took off in the eighties, this included surfboard bags for surfers travelling overseas and foam tail pads that allowed surfers to increase the grip of their back foot when performing critical maneuvers on steep waves. Despite the boom of the surf industry on Gold Coast of Australia the company decided to stay true to its roots and remain located in Dunsborough, Western Australia, Australia.
