Cruella 2 is an upcoming American film produced by Walt Disney Pictures. It is a sequel to the 2021 film Cruella. The sequel was first reported in June 2021, shortly after the release of the original film.[1] Emma Stone was confirmed to reprise her role as Estella / Cruella.[2]
Production
According to Screen Rant, The Walt Disney Company is moving forward with *Cruella 2* following the first film’s successful performance at the box office and on Disney+ Premier Access, as well as its positive reception from critics and audiences. There is significant interest in seeing a sequel, which is considered promising for Disney+ and fans of *Cruella*, especially after previous concerns regarding Scarlett Johansson’s dispute with Disney over the hybrid release of *Black Widow*. The first film also included a mid-credits scene teasing *101 Dalmatians*, laying the groundwork for a future project.[3]
In May 2021, Emma Stone and Emma Thompson stated that they would like a second *Cruella* film in the style of *The Godfather Part II*, combining prequel and sequel elements to explore the Baroness Von Hellman’s origin alongside Cruella De Vil’s new adventures. This could potentially bring back Glenn Close’s iconic performance from Disney’s early 2000s films while continuing Stone’s portrayal.[4]
In June 2021, Disney officially announced that a sequel was in the early stages of development, with Craig Gillespie expected to return as director and Tony McNamara as writer.[5] In August 2021, Emma Stone closed a deal to reprise her role in the sequel.[6]
