A Crungus is a phantasy creature, sometimes also referred to as a cryptid. The name itself is something with the Twitch streamer and voice actor Guy Kelly came up with and then entered it into Craiyon, an artificial intelligence system that generates imagery which created an image of Crungus.[1][2][3][4][5][6]
He later tweeted about this[7] which resulted in a very long thread of reactions and experiments with "Crungus" and variations of this AI-prompt also on different engines. While there are a few definitions of the term "crungus" in the Urban Dictionary, most of which have to do with the detritus that accumulates under fingernails,[8] there were no Google results for the term that looked like the monster Craiyon came up with.
Origins
It is unclear how the Crungus in Craiyon's output came into existence. Kelly thinks an error in the AI software models is the most likely explanation. In any case, the Krampus was quickly eliminated as a model. Although the horned mythical figure from the Alpine region has a similar name and his mask looks almost exactly the same, the term "Krampus" on Craiyon provides completely different images.
Appearance
While the depictions of Crungus are mostly somewhat similar on the same engine, different engines know the idea of Crungus to, although the depiction might differ, most[which?] engines produce monsters on this prompt.
