Crux (Ramez Naam novel)

Crux is a novel by Ramez Naam published August 27, 2013.[1] The novel follows the protagonist Kaden Lane, a scientist who works on an experimental nano-drug, Nexus, which allows the brain to be programmed and networked, connecting human minds together. The story takes place in the year 2040. It's the follow-up volume of Nexus.[2]

Six month have passed where we left the protagonist in Nexus, which ended with the release of the nano drug. The world face terrorism, by the governmental Post-Human Liberation Frond, and misapplication of the new technology. Main character Kade and the clone warrior Feng are hiding from the CIA, which want Kades head. During the elopement he tries to prevent the abuse of the nano drug, to prohibit a war between the post-humans and humans.

Meanwhile, in Shanghai, the post-human child Ling Shu tries to rescue her uploaded mother and release her from the grip of Chinese authorities. In Thailand, Samantha Cataranes helps in a protectory.[3][4][5]

The film rights to the book were purchased by Paramount in 2013.[6] The follower novel, Apex, was published in 2015.[7]

Plot Summary[edit]

Six months after the upload of the constructon plan of the Nexus, a nano drug,which allows the brain to be programmed and networked, connecting human minds together, the world faces terrorism and massive abuse of the new technology. The Liberation Front, a terror cell secretly created and headed by the US-American government, spread terror in the name of posthumanism, to prevent people from using the new technology and bring up an atmosphere of two 'n' eight to take drastic measures against Nexus.

In the meantime, our protagonist Kade and his new friend, clone warrior Feng, are fleeing from the CIA, which want see them both killed. On the elopement Kade is trying to stern the misuse of the nano drug to prevent a war between posthumans and humans. He has a code to the Nexus system that he can use to hack it.

The secret services are very interested in the code. Ilya Aleander dies as prisoner because she didn't gave the code to her turnkeys. Rangan Shankari can escape.

Su-Yong Shu died in Nexus and lives as a computer intelligence and prisoner on server belonging to the Chinese government. Ling Shu, her daughter, tries to help her mother to escape. At the end of the book, the mother uses Ling Shus Nexus system to hack her brain and take over the body of her daughter.

In Thailand, Samantha Cataranes helps in a protectory.
