Cryptic Campaigns
Cryptic Campaigns is a supplement published by West End Games in 1996 for the horror role-playing game World of Tales from the Crypt that uses the MasterBook rules system.
Contents[edit]
Cryptic Campaigns by Steve Brown, Mike Montesa and Greg Farshtey is a companion to the World of Tales from the Crypt.[1] The book offers advice to the referee on staging campaigns, and includes an adventure.[2]
Reviews[edit]
In the October 1996 edition of Dragon (Issue #234), Rick Swan didn't think this book's professorial voice matched the tone of previous Tales from the Crypt publications, saying, "Where's the friskiness, the freewheeling anarchy that distinguishes Crypt from every other horror game? And what happened to the puns?" Swan ended on an ambivalent note: "Though Cryptic Campaigns succeeds as a book of advice (with a pretty good adventure thrown in for good measure), I’m not sure every role-slayer will need it in his diebrary."[2]
