Crystal Music Ratings, sometimes abbreviated as CMR, is an organization that assigns age and content ratings to consumer music albums. It was established in 2020, in response to criticism of albums with excessively profane content. There is no legal requirement to sell albums based on their classifications, making the system a voluntary one for families of interest.
Music rating system
The system assigns ratings to albums based on five classifications (Childhood Audience, Parental Guidance, Parental Guidance 13+, Parental Guidance 15+ and Adult; listed in order of least sensitive content to most sensitive content), each corresponding to its own set of rules and content classifiers.
CMR openly accepts requests for the rating and addition of albums to its catalog and/or the re-rating of previously-rated albums in its catalog via a "Request Rating" page on its website.
