Cybarco is a Cypriot construction and real estate development company, part of the Lanitis Group. Founded in 1945, it is one of the leading companies in its sector in Cyprus, with an international presence spanning Greece, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, and the United Kingdom.[1] The company operates through two main subsidiaries: Cybarco Contracting Ltd., which undertakes large-scale infrastructure and building projects, and Cybarco Development Ltd., which focuses on luxury property development.[2]

History

Cybarco was founded in 1945 by foreign investors and Nicolas P. Lanitis, who held the majority of shares. Nicolas was the uncle of Evagoras K. Lanitis, who would later shape the company into its modern form as managing director and subsequently chairman of the broader Lanitis Group.[3]

Following the Turkish invasion of Cyprus in 1974, the foreign shareholders decided to withdraw from the company due to the severe financial repercussions of the invasion. In 1976, the Lanitis family, led by Evagoras K. Lanitis, purchased the foreign-held shares, resulting in the Lanitis Group owning approximately 90% of Cybarco. This transition into full family ownership, combined with the subsequent award of the contract for the South Pipeline (distributing water from the Kouris Dam across the government-controlled areas), proved to be a turning point that allowed Cybarco to grow significantly. For the pipeline project, Cybarco partnered with the British construction firm Shand, a collaboration that provided the company with additional expertise and experience to undertake major works both domestically and abroad.[3]

After the death of Evagoras K. Lanitis in 1992, his children Platon, Costas, and Marios Lanitis, together with Isabella Eliades, led Cybarco into the 21st century under the chairmanship of Platon Lanitis.[3]

Divisions

Cybarco Contracting

Cybarco Contracting Ltd. is the construction subsidiary of Cybarco Holdings Ltd. Its clients have included the governments of Cyprus, Greece, the United Kingdom, Bahrain, Qatar, and Kuwait.[2] The division's portfolio in Cyprus includes the construction of the international Nicosia Airport (1964), the Laniteion high school in Limassol, the Larnaca Refineries, the Limassol-Paphos highway, the Limassol sewerage system, the Yermasoyia Dam, and the Aphrodite Hills Golf Resort.[3]

Internationally, Cybarco Contracting has completed the Bahrain National Theatre (with its 1,001-seat auditorium referencing One Thousand and One Nights), the Al Sharq Resort Hotel in Qatar, and work at Qatar's Doha airport, as well as Kuwait's National Museum.[3][4]

Cybarco Development

Cybarco Development Ltd. is the luxury property development subsidiary. It has been responsible for several landmark residential and mixed-use projects in Cyprus, including the Aphrodite Hills Golf Resort, Sea Gallery Villas, Akamas Bay Villas, Amathusa Coastal Heights, The Oval (a commercial skyscraper designed by Atkins that sold out before completion), and the Limassol Marina, Cyprus's first residential marina development, which holds the 5 Gold Anchor Platinum Award.[2][5]

The company's most recent major project is Trilogy Limassol Seafront, a mixed-use high-rise complex on the Limassol waterfront comprising a 39-storey West Tower (170 m) and a 35-storey East Tower (160 m), designed by WKK Architects. The West Tower is the joint-tallest building in Cyprus. Construction began in 2018, and total sales and reservations exceeded EUR 385 million by September 2022.[6][7]

Upcoming developments include the Limassol Greens Golf Resort, Naftikos Residences, Aktea Residences 4, Centro Limassol, Seaview Heights, and Park Residences in Nicosia.[7]
