Phillipus Joseph (born in the North, 05 May), is a Namibian musician, popularly known by his stage name D-kandjafa and popularly known as a KWAITO and Afro-pop star...[1]. He is considered as a kwaito rapper, singer composer and song writer[2]

Early life and musical career[edit]

D-Kandjafa was born in the north central region of the country[3], and later moved to the capital in 2007 when he was first introduced to music[4]. Kwaito artist D-Kandjafa struggled to market and disribute music as an independent artist. He achieved a break after signing a deal with Deal Done Recordz's dotted line, an organisation which is popularly known in the music arena as Antonio and owned by Dragan Djokic[5]. D-Kandjafa was the first artist to be signed to Deal Done Recordzs for a period of three years[6][7][8]The musician is working with seasoned producers M-jay and Glow towards producing great musics[5]

Notable work[edit]

D-Kandjafa released three albums after he first stepped into the scene[9][10]. The musician set a good record sales for the year 2019 in which he has sold about 500 copies in his first week sales at Antonio's Art, located in Wernil Park. His album 'kokule', which was released under Deal Done Recordz and produced by M-Jay has some notable inspiring songs, which have been playing on every jukebox country-wide[11][12]

D-Kandjafa's upcoming album 'kapa kaye', which was stolen at Hakahana on Thursday, 21 April 2020 was put on hold for release. The incident happened when D-Kandjafa hired some boys to update the new jukebox for the bar. Someone took the USB from the beatbox which contained all songs for the upcoming album, which was set to be released in May 2022. The stolen album consists of 20 tracks and featured well known artists such as Exit, New Turn, Teqla, Zomblam, Kangwesan, Christmas 065 Crew, Appi_7, Chacki-Beatz, and Warforce[13]
