DAV stands for ‘Dayanand Anglo-Vedic’ - a educational system inspired by Swami Dayanand Saraswati, the founder of Arya Samaj.

In 1970, a group of followers established the first school in Gopalapuram, Chennai and well-wishers contributed funds and other resources towards infrastructure. Today the institution now runs/ manages 10 schools across Chennai, Puducherry and Ranipet..[1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] [7] [8] [9][10][11]

The schools are managed by the Tamil Nadu Arya Samaj Education Society (TNAES) registered under the Societies Act XXI of 1860, Sl. No.101 of 1974.[12][13]

School Branches[edit]

The first school at Gopalapuram, Chennai was bifurcated in 1995 and since then has been running in two different campuses, as DAV Boys Senior Secondary School and DAV Girls Senior Secondary School.

There are three schools in Mogappair, Chennai - Boys Senior Secondary School, Girls Senior Secondary School and a Co-Education Secondary School.[14]

The only State Board school is the DAV Matriculation Higher Secondary School at Gill Nagar and this school also offers inclusive education to children with special needs in the age group of 3.5 and 10 years. [12]

The most recent DAV school was started in 2017 at Puducherry.

Managed School - The DAV-BHEL School at Ranipet [15] was started in August 1982 under an agreement between the Tamil Nadu Arya Samaj Educational Society, Chennai and the Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited, Ranipet. Although it was built for the benefit of the children of BHEL Employees, the admission facility is also extended to non-BHEL residents.

Govt- Aided Schools - Srimathi Nirmalaben Chandulal Parikh (SNCP) Arya Samaj Primary School, Sowcarpet is a Girls only CBSE Higher Secondary School. The school was started in 1944 for children of low parental income. Arya Samaj High School at Vyasarpadi, started in 1974 is a Co-Education CBSE Higher Secondary School.

Open Schooling -The Institution also offers open schooling through the National Institute of Open Schooling [NIOS] Board [16] [17] which is applicable for students entering Standard IX, X, XI & XII or home schooled learners.

Other Initiatives[edit]

Academic Associations - The institution currently has Academic Associations with eight Higher Secondary Co-education schools across Tamil Nadu.

Programs for adults like the Teacher Training programs (launched in 2017),[18] [19] Skill development and vocational courses,[20],[21]. and the Public Policy Fellowship Program presented in association with Tamil Nadu Young Thinkers Forum[22] [23] are all open to the public

The institution runs a Vedic Sanskriti School (Also offered by other Arya Samaj schools) and provides coaching for Defence Entrance exams[24] [25]
