OVERVIEW[edit]
DANGEN Entertainment, Inc. (Japanese: DANGEN ENTERTAINMENT 株式会社, Hepburn: DANGEN Entertainment kabushiki-gaisha) is a video game publisher based in Osaka, Japan, that specializes in publishing indie games worldwide, and offers localization, marketing and PR, and help releasing games on multiple platforms. It was founded in May 2017 by Ben Judd, Nayan Ramachandran, Dan Stern, Dan Luffey, Chad Porter and John Davis.[1]
DANGEN first announced its formation at Kyoto’s 2017 BitSummit event, A 5th of Bitsummit, where it exhibited four indie game titles: Iconoclasts, Brave Earth: Prologue, Cross Code, and Momodora V (relaunched in 2018 as Minoria[2]).[3]
History[edit]
Founding[edit]
DANGEN Entertainment was founded by Ben Judd, Nayan Ramachandran (formerly of AGM Playism), Dan Stern (formerly of AGM Playism), John Davis (formerly of Grasshopper Manufacture and Q Games), Chad Porter (formerly of Q Games), and Dan Luffey.
The company was formed shortly after Judd, Stern and Ramachandran had an off-the-cuff discussion one evening about how an indie publisher should operate. While the idea of starting an indie publishing company was originally spearheaded by Judd, DANGEN began to take form when Ramachandran and Stern agreed to come on board. The three remaining founders came on board shortly after.
While the main DANGEN office is in Osaka[4], it is technically a satellite company with members working remotely while living in different parts of Japan, including Kyoto and Nagano.
In late 2018, Marketing Director John Davis left DANGEN Entertainment for Sony Music Entertainment label Unties, and was replaced by Justin Pfeiffer.
