dArtagnan is a German Folk Rock Schlager band originating in Nuremberg. It is named after Charles D'Artagnan, the historical soldier best known for his prominence in Alexandre Dumas' The Three Musketeers. The band calls its style "Musketeer Rock".[1]
History
The band was founded in 2015 by singer and musician Ben Metzner, who is now a mandolin, bagpipe, and flute player in the band, Felix Fischer, the band's guitarist and background singer, and singer Tim Bernard. Metzner and Fischer, who had been friends since childhood, also collaborated in the medieval rock band Feuerschwanz.[2]
Shortly after the band's founding, it reached a record deal with Sony Music. Its first album, Seit an Seit, was released on 26 February 2016, and debuted at no.7 on the German album charts, also reaching success in the Swiss and Austrian charts.[3][4][5] It was awarded the Golden Record in 2017 for the album.
On April 16, 2016 the trio played at the Festival of Folk Music in Halle an der Saale, which was broadcast on TV by ARD and ORF. From May 11 to 28, 2016, the band toured Germany as headliners for thirteen concerts. On September 15, 2017, the album Verehrt und verdammt was released, which reached number 11 in the German album charts.
In December 2017, Felix Fischer announced he was leaving dArtagnan and Feuerschwanz.
In 2019, the band's third studio album, In jener Nacht, was released.
Style
The band calls its style "Musketeer Rock". It is compared to the German band Santiano. It combines Schlager rhythms and folk themes.[1]
