Dagoberto Rodríguez Sánchez
Dagoberto Rodríguez Sánchez, (Caibarién, Cuba, 6 March de 1969) is a Cuban painter and sculptor cofounder of the art collective Los Carpinteros in 1992. He graduated from the InstitutoSuperior de Arte (ISA) in La Habana, Cuba, in 1994 and his work has been exhibited in museums, galleries and institutions worldwide, including Museu Oscar Niemeyer (Curitiba, Brazil) and Galerie Peter Kilchmann (Zürich, Switzerland). Currently he works and lives between Madrid and La Habana and combines architecture, design and sculpture. All the while employing humor and analyzing central issues within society.
Biography[edit]
He was born in Caibarién, Cuba, in 1969. He realized his studies between 1985 and 1986 in Escuela Elemental de Arte in Santa Clara, Cuba and, between 1985 and 1989, in Escuela Nacional de Arte (ENA) in La Habana. In 1994 he graduated from Instituto Superior de Arte (ISA), also in La Habana.
Period with Los Carpinteros[edit]
In 1994 he cofounded, together with Cuban artists Marco Castillo and Alexandre Jesús Arrechea Zambrano, the art collective Los Carpinteros. It is an art collective that, through sculptures, installations, drawings, watercolors and multimedia works, analyzes daily life, analyzing society from the point of view of ingenuity and with a sense of humor.
Solo period[edit]
Since the separation of the collective Los Carpinteros in 2018, Dagoberto Rodríguez works between Madrid, Spain and La Habana, Cuba. From then begins his solo trajectory. His work continues to follow the style of Los Carpinteros, that of the analysis of society through humor and irony. It reflects on political, artistic and social issues.
