Damibliz
Lukmon Damilare Yusuff, professionally known as Damibliz, is a UK based Nigerian singer, songwriter and rapper.
Early life[edit]
Born in Lagos, Nigeria, Damibliz first began singing in his school's cultural group at a young age when he was selected by a teacher to do so.[1] He was also part of the school's comedy and acting class. He finally realized he wanted to pursue music as a career at the age of 10 after listening to a Michael Jackson song. In 2016, Damibliz moved to the UK.
Career[edit]
Damibliz[2] released his first debut single Jowabayi in 2018. Jowabayi is a blend of Yoruba, English and Pidgin (broken English). It was a collaboration with Afrobeat record producer and singers Mystro, and Naira Marley. Jowabayi was later remixed with Afrobeat singer CDQ joining the original line-up. The song entered charts worldwide including in the UK, Nigeria, Ghana, US, South Africa and Kenya[3]. Damibliz has performed at sold-out shows in major venues in the UK including the O2 Arena and Felabration. He has shared the stage with, to name a few, Diamond Platnumz, Wizkid, Davido, Burna Boy and Yemi Alade. Jowabayi[4] is still one of the most played songs worldwide.
Damibliz put Peckham UK on the map with his song Jowabayi, the video was shot entirely in the Peckham area which has a large population of Nigerians and his slogan 'All di way from Peckham Iyanyin' can be heard in most of his street anthems. He has since released other singles including Medulla. He has also been featured on songs by other Afrobeat artists including Ikebe and Melanine Popping by Young Chap, Aise You Foot by Double A, Lamba by Bawizo, Burundi by Subzilla.
Musical Style[edit]
Damibliz started writing songs at the age of ten and cites Michael Jackson, Celine Dion, and Barrister Ebenezer Obey as his biggest influences. He described their music as timeless and music to which all ages and all races can relate. His music style is versatile ranging from high tempo street style to slow love anthems. He is well known for his clever blend of Yoruba and English. He writes all his songs which are oftentimes Afrobeat. However, his diverse range of music appeals to a wide range of audiences. His song Hold Me which is a slow love song mainly in English or and his song Shekpe is a fast and fun number sang mainly in Yoruba.
