Dan Bourchier is an Australian journalist. Since 2017, Bourchier has presented ABC News in Canberra as well as the breakfast program on 666 ABC Canberra.[1]
He has previously been a political reporter and the National Indigenous Affairs Correspondent for Sky News Australia.[2]
Career[edit]
Bourchier joined Sky News in 2012, as a Darwin reporter and later becoming the network's Northern Territory bureau chief. He previously opened Australia's first joint news bureau, for National Indigenous Television and Sky News, in Darwin.
In late 2015, Bourchier was appointed as a political reporter based in Canberra, replacing outgoing reporter David Lipson, while retaining his Indigenous Affairs Correspondent role.[3] Bourchier has previously worked for NITV as well as the NT News newspaper.[4] Bourchier finished at Sky News on 18 November 2016 and it was subsequently announced he was joining the ABC as presenter of the Canberra television news bulletin as well as morning radio presenter.[5]
Bourchier was awarded the "scoop of the year" award at the NT Media Awards for his coverage of the NT leadership spill in 2013.[3]
Bourchier was part of the Sky News team to win the 2016 Walkley Award for coverage of a major news event. The award was for the coverage of the marathon 2016 Election Campaign. Bourchier spent all but a few days on the road, covering the eight-week campaign, and every move of the Prime Minister and Opposition Leader.[citation needed]
Bourchier is a regular on the MC circuit, and regularly hosts corporate and charity events across the country.[6] He is an ambassador for children's charity Variety.[7]
Bourchier was raised in the Northern Territory town of Tennant Creek and has Indigenous Australian ancestry from his mother's family, from Victoria.[8][9]
